Mika Tennekoon

MIKA TENNEKOON b. 1985

Born in Sri Lanka in 1985, Mika Tennekoon completed her HND in Visual Communication at the Academy of Design in Sri Lanka and received her MFA in Khala Bhavana, Santiniketan, India in 2017. Tennekoon staged her first solo exhibition in Sri Lanka in November 2012, and has participated in group shows in both Colombo and Galle in Sri Lanka as well as in the USA, India, Dubai and Vietnam. Mika draws inspiration from the simple translation of day-to-day and emotional events and transforms them into intricately constructed artworks. She works with multiple mediums such as painting, photography, digital sketches and installation.

"My visual narrative of ordinary thoughts and experiences are reflected in my work. I feel that the need to make art is an intrinsic part of me, and this necessity to create is almost an obsession. In my work I represent parts of myself that I have managed to create before the thought is gone or the experience forgotten."
